Description
A five story parking garage is to be constructed in the southern swedish town of Halmstad.
This project started out as a CFA design. Upon reviewing the project and comparing it with a MDM solution, it became clear that some substantial savings could be realized, both for the owner and the entrepreneur.
This is the first project where MDM has been used as a direct foundation system. Because this, we implemented a very rigorus testing schedule to make sure the MDM design would perform as predicted. More on the testing can be found under "Tests-Gamle Tull".
The original CFA design was essentially kept, but with some modifications to accomodate the MDM columns.
The MDM columns were installed in overlapping blocks of 6-12 columns each. Immediately after the column installation, an excavator was used to "cut off" the fresh columns at a precise depth. The following day a concrete slab was poured directly on top of the MDM columns.
This concrete pad serves as the connection points for the pre-fabricated concrete structure elements that are to become the building backbone.
This project was performed in the middle of the city with apartments on all sides, thus reducing working hours. Even so, the average production towards the end of the project, when all the kinks were worked out, was in the neighborhood of 550 meters per shift.
